Henry Archer Watch: Danish Design come to Life

Henry Archer Watch: Danish Design come to Life

Continuing with my deep dive of Micro Brand watches,  today I wanted to have a deeper look at the Danish brand Henry Archer. Henry Archer lean on their Danish design heritage as a source of inspiration behind their designs.

What is Danish design?

I hear you cry! Danish design is characterised by a clear connection between function, design, and the use of quality materials. It's these core values that define their company’s DNA. According to them at least. Of late the company has started dipping their toes into the world of Dive Watches. In particular their range the Nordso is the one that caught my eye.

A little bit about Henry Archer and Nordso

Nordsø is Danish for the “North Sea”, which lies between Great Britain and Denmark. A very apt name for a series of dive watches from Henry Archer, which is a Danish microbrand. In English, this can be written as Nordsoe, or sometimes Nordso.

What about the materials?

The components that make up Henry Archer watches are of the highest quality (according to their About us section. BTW notice that all brands love to give themselves a 5 star review in their about me section? You never hear anything like, oh we've been making crap for years from the cheapest plastic using torn underwear for straps)  such as sapphire crystal, mechanical movements from leading manufacturers, and full-grain vegetable tanned Italian leather.

All about the details

Henry Archer, (btw does everyone just think of Face/Off when they hear the name Archer?) meticulously create custom molds for everything - from the dial and indices to the case, crown, and even the date wheel.

Feedback from YouTube (One More Watch

I have the Nordlys in the Neon purple with colourful minute markers and I love it. This was before they had a bracelet and when the crowns were square, but the more conventional crowns now are a better idea. The dial is stunning, the brushed bezel stops it being too dark, the colours are understated but fun and the watch has a very premium feel. Plus, the owner is a genuinely nice guy who cares about his watches and his customers.

Feedback from a Reddit thread

Overall, they are respected at this price point. They’re not super well known even among watch people but there are no particular red flags about them. I think at this price point you can do better but if the look of their watches speak to you, then that is reason enough.

Editor's Pick

Typically the one I like is a limited edition HENRY ARCHER MALACHITE NORDSO. Only available on the Micro Brand store website. The 40mm Henry Archer Nordsø Malachite is a 200 meter rated dive watch featuring a malachite gemstone dial. Each dial will have a unique look stemming from the varying banding lines that naturally occurs in malachite.

Price £540
