THE BEST WATCH TO WEAR TO A PARTY
This is by far the coolest watch to wear at a party. WHY? Because it's a conversation stimulator. Today I'm talking about the Selten Watch Company, a Microbrand founded in 2017.
"Selten" is the German word for "rare", an apt brand name since the Selten Watch Company designs feature Meteorites in their dials. Meteorite dial watches tend to cost fortunes. But this one comes in at a very modest £550.
How come they've made it so accessible? Let's dig into the backstory, and then I'll follow up with some spec details and feedback from other reviews.
Around the time dinosaurs were relaxing at their dinosaur parties, a few millions of years ago a great big Meteorite came down and called last orders. It landed in Gibeon, Namibia. Over a 100 fragments of that meteorite has been collected since 1911 with several going missing and many pieces being turned into slices of watch dial.
In 1950 the remaining bits were classed as a national monument. No longer available for merchandise, no matter how rich you were you couldn't come in and chisel a little bit of rock away for yourself.
Watches harvested from Gibeon are becoming more pricier as they become rarer and rarer. But wait, theres other bits of rock. In fact around 500 meters fall to earth every year.
The meteorite used on SELTEN watches is made from the Muonionalusta Meteorite, which fell from space and landed in northern Scandinavia over a million years ago. Or a million and ten, we just can't be sure of the exact date.
Apparently the pattern is impossible to replicate in the lab, due to the rareness. Although they can clone human ears on mice, and I have a heated toilet seat with a remote control for my bidet, so anything is possible in my book. Back to the watches.
So Selten, have found a great niche within a niche. Selten went in strong for their first collection called 00.00 by inserting a meteorite in the dial. The hands are heat blued but what really makes this dial, is another splash of space rock in the form of the day/night display. The whole thing is ringed in polished steel with the logo placed loud in a curved plaque just under the 12 o clock marker.
It’s a handsome watch, crafted with care. Each watch is numbered and has quick release strap changing should you want to dress it up or go casual. The movement is a premium automatic and has an exhibition showcase.
Very pleasant to look at, great story piece. It certainly looks chunky, but I don't mind it chunky style.

I picked up the aventurine dial one secondhand recently and while I agree if your emphasis is on the rare space rock dial for sure go for that, but, I wouldn't undersell just how gorgeous the aventurine looks. Pictures simply do not do it justice, it's got a shimmery gleam that is simply a delight on my wrist; like the two "moons" made of meteorite really are floating in the expanse of a starry sky.
