The ZELOS WATCH Best Skeleton Dial Face on a Microbrand?

The ZELOS WATCH Best Skeleton Dial Face on a Microbrand?

Today I'm looking at a rather obscure Microwatch brand, Zelos Watches. All of the success Zelos has achieved, can be attributed to just one man, Elshan Tang. A man that belies the global reach of the brand, that humbles the luxury market, and makes watches fun and accessible to everyone. I've picked out one watch in particular from their catalogue, which made me look twice. The Zelos Spearfish Dual time.

Editor's Pick

Zelos Watches has forged a loyal community around the world, and over time has burgeoned a very expansive catalogue. Most of their watches hang around at the 500 - 2000 dollar space, which is an increasingly competitive space. Watches in this price bracket are very similar. You can find common traits; bracelets are going be fairly good, same with the finishing. Aesthetically they may be different but spec wise they will be more or less the same.

What makes Zelos Watches different?

The Zelos Spearfish Dual time is made from titanium which is harder to work on than steel. Thus making it more expensive, more corrosive resistant, more durable. As a result the watch feels very light (I'm imagining having experienced titanium watches before). The risk of that is that the watch could feel lightweight and cheap. However, according to a review by This Watch That Watch, it's anything but.

The finishing is well done and it appears that a lot of thought and work has been put into the design. Another downside of titanium is that the bracelet could feel a bit rough and that has something to do with the texture of titanium. Again I'm only going by experience.

The dial

As you can see it's a very busy dial face. It's not quite a skeleton but at first glance and to the naked eye it looks like one. I personally steer clear of over busy watches, but there is something quite magnetic about this one. The class and character of this one is truly bouncing off the screen.

Let's also not forget the cool factor. Whilst everyone is looking for more minimalism in their watches and lives, this one will be a conversation stimulator at parties. It's distinctive and the design language is clear, throughout the rest of the catalogue also.

Available through the website, $2199

Other reviews

I have a few Zelos myself. My most recent purchase was a Mako GMT. For the first time, I had a problem with it, the on the fly micro adjust wasn't holding a setting and was loosening up. I ended up taking a link out and wore it that way for a bit, until summer came around and my wrist got a little wider. I emailed Zelos asking for guidance, they mailed me a new clasp after ensuring they had the correct type of watch, and that was the end of it. No nonsense good customer service and great quality for the price. - YouTube Comment
