A Luxurious Escape at The Resort at Pelican Hill

After checking out of the Montage Laguna Beach, I continued my journey up the California coast in the Volvo EX90 (an experience I still rave about!) and arrived at The Resort at Pelican Hill on the Newport Coast. My stay here was for two nights, and from the moment I arrived, it was clear I was in for an unforgettable experience.

The architecture and landscaping evoke a serene Italian countryside, but with the unmistakable freshness of the California coast. It’s a true haven of luxury and tranquility, a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to savour every moment.

The accommodation at Pelican Hill is simply outstanding. My villa was spacious, beautifully decorated, and had all the amenities one could ask for. The outdoor terrace was a highlight – sitting there with a morning coffee, overlooking the rolling golf course and the ocean beyond, was the perfect way to start the day. The service at the resort was flawless; every request was met with genuine warmth and attentiveness, making the stay feel incredibly personal.

One of the highlights of my visit was lounging by the Coliseum Pool, an architectural masterpiece in itself. The circular design and grand scale, combined with the gorgeous ocean views, created a sense of calm and luxury that’s hard to describe. It was a relaxing space to soak up the sun, enjoy a cocktail, and let the world drift away. For those who love golf, the resort also boasts an award-winning course, which is renowned for both its challenging play and incredible views.

Dining at Pelican Hill was equally exceptional. The resort’s restaurants offer a mix of Italian-inspired cuisine and local Californian flavours, all served in spectacular settings. I enjoyed a couple of unforgettable meals here, both complemented by impeccable service and breathtaking ocean views. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, and the quality of the ingredients really stood out.

In all, my two-night stay at The Resort at Pelican Hill was the perfect conclusion to my journey up the coast. The seamless blend of elegance, comfort, and nature make this a resort I’d return to without hesitation. Whether you're looking to unwind by the pool, take in the coastal beauty, or indulge in world-class dining, Pelican Hill delivers on all fronts. It's truly a sanctuary on the Newport Coast.
