Some great Spring/Summer fragrances for him

Don't we all dream a dream of Spring/Summer. Where we can finely rid ourselves of worrying about whether or not the pets can survive without central heating. (Of course Tuula and I can thanks to our wonderful discovery of nightcaps (not the drink, although that too). As humans we lose 80% of our body heat through our head and our feet. So we wear socks and nightcaps to bed, aggregate our limbs and body parts into a unique spooning position that I may look to patent one day, and have a bountiful night’s sleep).

But now Spring/Summer is on the horizon, it's time to revisit some fragrances that will welcome in the new season. Following on from my previous chat about what Spring/Summer notes are right for Him, I've now burrowed deeper into the rabbit hole and want to share some of my research and recommendations for you.

What fragrance notes are perfect for Spring/Summer

Muguet, honeysuckle,  mimosa, freesia, magnolia, grasses, lavender, geranium, tuberose, rose, lily of the valley, Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin, Iris.

Lavender Fragrance

The Lavender note is the throbbing you know what in the Acqua di Parma's Colonia Club Eau de Cologne available for £69. According to this article by Katie Berohn in Who What Wear, (lovely play on words there) '... this perfume expertly weaves lavender with citrus notes. The result is a luxe, impossibly fresh, and bright scent.' Not only that but it's travel size, which is something I'm looking to get into more these days because not only do I love smelling good on holiday, you just never know what's round the corner. Call me selfish but my goal is to leave this mortal coil with not a drop of fragrance left in any of my bottles. I'm just thinking sustainably.

Lemon Fragrance

The Lemon note is the lynch pin in the L'OCCITANE - Citrus Verbena Eau de Toilette, available for £36.50. According to Esha Saxena in the article Best Lemon Perfumes Of 2023 ; That Will Make You Smell Like Sunshine,

'...L’Occitane’s Verbena accurately captures the extroverted notes of Mediterranean verbena, combining it with a rosy base of geranium and lemon tree.'

And who doesn't want to smell like sunshine? Wouldn't it be great if the bottle could also play Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves every time you popped the lid and splashed it on? Although I imagine it would soon get annoying, as it has been on a loop on every advert for sun cream, nutrition bars, Fiat Puntos, P&O cruises, all-inclusive holidays with Easy Jet and ladies tampon's for the past 30 years.

Bergamot Fragrance

The Bergamot note is the centre of the Rubik Cube in the Oud & Bergamot by Jo Malone Eau de Cologne Intense Spray 100ml for £138 according to GQ. (Although they didn't literally say that, as you can probably tell. As much as I love GQ for the events and work they send my way from time to time, their team of intern writers literally couldn't spell Metaphore, wait, Metafor, ... errr one sec, Metafour, oh well you get my point).

Honeysuckle Fragrance

The Honeysuckle note is to Yardley London as what Hank Marvin was to The Shadows, instrumental. One reviewer on Amazon said '..Let’s face it, you can’t really go wrong with Yardley [...] This honeysuckle one is really nice. I’d buy it again.' Now for brevity I've omitted the part where they talk about how it doesn't last for longer than ten minutes on the skin, but the reviewer is well aware of that, and knows what to expect for £10.66.

Rose Fragrance

As you may have already read in my review of TOM FORD'S Rose Collection parfums, the Rose note is what Physicist Brian Cox might call a 'Soft Singularity'. I'm not sure the true definition of a 'Soft Singularity', but I'm guessing it's all to do with black holes, relativity and other scientific terminology that will certainly get you a gig on Tomorrow's World if you knew how to use them in sentences, and if they didn't decommission the show in July 2003.

Back to TOM FORD and his Roses. Yes he has his own private rose garden and why not share the splendours of those aromas. Or at least, release a collection so he can fund the gardener, the landscaper, and the artist who no doubt is commissioned to paint the roses every day.

Available to buy on Amazon, and despite the feminine packaging, I truly recommend it.
