La Mer x Michelle Yeoh Social Campaign
Announced recently in the Big Apple, NEW YORK, NY on the 3rd April 2023 – La Mer debuts a new social campaign starring Academy-Award winning actress, Michelle Yeoh.
Known for her powerful performances and the elegant fortitude and grace with which she moves in the world, the celebrated actress is a natural fit with La Mer, as both exemplify the dualities of timeless strength and softness.
Let's not also forget she was also a right handful as Wai Lin in the classic James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies. Not only did she look an absolute picture abseiling in a PVC catsuit, but she could also handle herself. She really kept Bond honest too, not succumbing to his charms until the very end of the movie once she had shot all the bad guys to ribbons with not one, but two Heckler & Koch MP5K submachine guns.
"The campaign with Michelle Yeoh is a natural fit, as La Mer's skin philosophy harnesses sea born health and energy to achieve timeless beauty. Amidst a ground-breaking year. Michelle Yeoh has also defied conventional notions of time and age, with her trailblazing career and inspirational story," says Sandra Main, La Mer Global Brand President.
Can you believe that Michelle Yeoh is 60 years old (at the time of writing this in 2023). She has the skin of a 55 year old at least! She is also as nimble as a ballerina as you can witness in her in the campaign video La Mer released on their YouTube channel.
"The sea is very special to me. It's a place where I find calm and inspiration and it brings warm memories of my time spent there with family," says Yeoh, of her lifelong connection with the ocean. "That same connection is what drew me to La Mer products not only make my skin glow and feel healthy, but they also bring the same sense of calm and rejuvenation I feel when I'm by the ocean."
I can certainly relate to what Michelle is saying there about the sea. I love nothing more than going down to the sea and finding that moment of serenity as I roll up my chinos and feel the tide lap around my feet. Although to be clear it has to be a sea in the tropics. I'm not talking about Lowestoft beach here, more the shores of Paradise Island in The Bahamas. Some place more connected with society as we know it. Basically what I'm saying is, if it's a beach lined with arcade halls and vape shops, then it's not for me.
Yeoh will be featured in a series of social-first films directed by Yvan Fabling, which provide an intimate view into Yeoh's personal journey and the rituals that have made her the influential woman she is today. This coincides with the NEW Moisturizing Soft Cream which embodies timeless radiance. The sumptuous cream transforms her skin with a soft glow that illuminates the screen with grace and strength.
Michelle Yeoh's Oscar winning speech was inspiring, how she told women to dream big and never be told they are past their prime. It's a mantra I beat into Tuula every morning. I say 'Tuula, I love you, I'll never trade you in for a younger model when you hit 29. Now repeat after me, 'You are not past your prime when you hit 29. You are not past your prime when you hit 29. You are not past your prime when you hit 29.'
It helps when I say it with her, and we repeat it for a couple of minutes in front of the mirror and this shared affirmation really helps kick start her day.
'The series is an ode to water. Embracing La Mer's renewing powers that come straight from the sea, time and water will play key roles in the thematic storytelling," describes Fabing. Time bends, freezes, speeds up, pauses, flashes and rewinds to indulge favourite rituals - both figuratively and literally. In all these scenes the true beauty of radiant skin shines through."
