Bright Leather by Salvatore Ferragamo | Fragrance Review
Today I'm going to be sharing some of my thoughts on the relatively new Bright Leather by Salvatore Ferragamo. This is the 4th fragrance in their leather fragrance catalogue. The predecessors being Ferragamo (original), Ferragamo Intense, Ferragamo Spicy Leather and now this which is the Spring/Summer flanker to the Spicy Leather version.
The bottle is in keeping with the others. Squared, neatly presented with a steel plate down two opposing sides. The pressurised atomiser immediately makes you feel at ease.
On opening I get a nice fresh aromatic hit. It has a warmth to it that I wasn't quite expecting. But it starts to develop and the citrusy notes of Mandarin Orange and Grapefruit weave in and out. I didn't quite find the Bergamot within those two but it did make a cameo later on. One of the thing that I liked about the scent was how it unravelled. The notes untangled very interestingly although not in the way I expected. It's a very layered and complex arrangement, something I'm more conditioned to with higher end leather fragrances such as TOM FORD Ombre Leather. The original Ferragamo had echoes of Ombre, this one leans more towards the Aqua Fahrenheit by Dior or Brioni for Men.
As this scent meanders from its fresh opening, the earthy notes of basil and rosemary push through. And just at that moment when you're wondering when the leather will come join the party, it arrives. It doesn't kick the doors down, and there are no fireworks. The White Leather modestly slips in, like an old friend that hugs you from behind at a party. Even though they've been there the entire time, you've only just encountered their presence and it's a welcome one.
The musk and the cedar give it a solid underbelly and then although not at once. I didn't get much patchouli, but nothing was particularly straight forward with this scent. It's not the most vivacious of spring/summer fragrances, but it will make a great gift for someone who regularly wears aftershave. It did perform reasonably at 6-7 hours which is an over-performance for the price. It's a solid purchase at around £54 and it's a safe yet intriguing addition to my summer fragrance collection.
I would wear this happily to the gym, for dog walks, maybe the odd BBQ.
