TOMMY HILFIGER IMPACT | SPICY FRAGRANCES
Today I'm going to talk about the new fragrance IMPACT by Tommy Hilfiger. It has a very interesting lid/handle that I've heard some people say has 'aqua marine' vibes. I'm not so sure about that, or what that even means. To me it's more reminiscent of a demolition plunger. On to the fragrance itself.
The opening notes are very peppery. It has an unflinching sense of familiarity. Almost like a greatest hits catalogue of youthful scents carefully curated specifically for the Autumn Winter.
The pepper settles down, but the spice lingers. It has a nostalgic aura, that brings a soothing quality. Like dating an ex-girlfriend, but not for the sex, just so you don't have to go to the cinema alone. If it was for the sex you would never have broken up.
I digress.
Or do I? Herein lies its qualities, and simultaneously, it's failings. It's the lack of adventure that will ultimately leave you a tad underwhelmed. It's not nuanced enough to make it a mature fragrance. For a spicy fragrance I crave a little mysticism.
There are certainly echoes of Moscino Toyboy, only with a bit more staying paying. (I got 7 hours performance from this in the end, which is very good value for money).
It has also similarities with Dior Homme Intense, ironically though without the intensity. It's woodier, and hasn't got that class element that is synonymous with Dior. But then you get what you pay for.
Effectively you have a great generic, non-offensive gifting fragrance on your hands. If you know any male in his mid-twenties then this is a perfect Christmas present. Because it offers so little in the way of innovation, it won't offend anyone.
In summary, it's not a box of tricks by any stretch. If IMPACT was an artist I'd say it's MOBY. It's incredibly formulaic, but if you like Moby then you don't want MOBY to be progressive or conceptual. You can certainly give many men who know no better a MOBY album for Christmas.
