Could this be the Best Watch for under £100 according to the Internet?

I've done a lot of mulling over what watch brand to buy next. I've been looking into Citizen Watches, mainly because I like the idea of the eco-powered versions that run off light solar energy. But like with most things when I'm starting out new, I don't want to go all in with a monster purchase, I really just want to put my toe in the water and start with an everyday entry level watch.

I'm not thinking about the Dive Watches, or the Promaster collections which is synonymous with the Citizen brand, much like the Seamaster and Speedmaster are to Omega. In particular I'm looking at the Citizen Chandler 37mm which is currently selling for under £100 on Amazon.

The height is a nice 9.2mm which gives it a bit of heft. The main problem I get with everyday watches under $20o is how flat they look on the wrist. For my money it looks far too feminine and dare I say, a little cheap when you have a Daniel Wellington or a Mondaine flat watch.

This Chandler 37mm has some chunky turn down lugs that give it a brutal field watch aesthetic. It's a small dial face but that doesn't overly bother me as I have relatively small wrists and this is not going to be my showy watch, it will more than likely be my travel watch.

The green textile fabric with metallic rings give it that true field watch feel. It has some military flair. You can change the strap if it’s not for you. The glossy black dial acts covers up the solar cell, which powers the eco drive. The Arabic numerals and triangular plots are a nice touch.

Various threads and comments on Citizen Watches:

1.     There is no battery needed. Sun and daylight keep it running and it has a date along with the name of the day. It glows in the dark and is cheap to buy. YouTube

2.     Citizen watches are phenomenal. They don't get enough credit because of their low-end pieces. It dilutes their brand value. But, in your budget, you'll get quality pieces. Automatic, and Eco-Drive Chronograph. REDDIT

3.     I think Citizen watches are decent, and the build quality is solid. BensWatchClub

4.     Citizen watches offer excellent bang for your buck. The Eco Drive movement may not seem special at first (it’s just as accurate as any regular quartz movement), but the fact that you never need to change the battery is pretty incredible. With a huge variety of styles and exceptional finish quality, Citizen is a one-of-a-kind brand. The AdultMan

5.     Citizen watches are underrated by watch snobs worldwide. Those purists who would never wear any watch that is not mechanical much less a watch as cheap as a Citizen. Here is the Citizen solar quartz accuracy in a classically handsome field watch that I never have to set or worry about the cost of replacement. YouTube
