Why I'm Stocking up on Skechers Slip-ons
I'll admit I've reached my early 40s and I'm starting to treasure a bit of functionality over fashion. These past few weeks I've bought 3 pairs of Slip-on Skecher trainers, and I've even doubled up on the same pair because the fit is so good. When I wear these ones into the ground, providing my feet don't shrink, I can slip comfortably in my new pair that I'll have on standby.
The beauty of these slip-ons is that there is a generous but not overly exaggerated heel to give me an extra inch in height. They are very quick to get on hence the name. It's like sliding into slippers or moccasins. And if you're in and out of the house as much as I am with the dogs, having something easy to pop on is a God send.
They are lace ups but not adjustable. But they offer the look and feel of a regular trainer. As for comfort it feels like you're walking around on a bouncy castle. Very soft. I've also bought a size that is just a shade too big, so that I can slip into them even more easily.
I've gone to the neutral colour grey which keeps everything on the low down, can pair with trainers and khaki-coloured chinos or trousers, perfect for summer.
The best thing is that it saves time lacing shoes and having to unlace them when you're in and out constantly. So, are Sketchers worth the hype? YES. Are they considered a 'Dad Brand'? According to this thread on Reddit;
I fit the stereotype: I am in my 50s and work on my feet all day (delivery driver) but I bought some Skechers work boots recently and they are by far the most comfortable footwear I’ve ever worn. I really notice the difference over the course of the day
But are Skechers cool?
I would say no, but who cares. Everyone's interpretation of cool means something different to them. It's also a cultural thing, as highlighted on the same thread on Reddit;
There's also a cultural thing, The UK from what I've seen see footwear as a statement, and while we have our own sneakerheads here in Japan we favour practicality and efficiency in our daily lives regardless of age bracket, shoes especially.
To me cool is wearing brands that people don't recognise or have never heard of. But I'm sick of trying to be cool for the sake of fashion. And should I be cool just because David Beckham or Brad Pitt is telling me these are the brands that make you cool?
Can I invest in Skechers?
These trainers are so good I've been looking into investing in Skechers. I have found on their website that you can invest in Skechers on the open market. Interestingly they have just entered the baseball market and according to Nasdaq have enjoyed a record year of sales.
If anyone from Skechers would like me to road test future models or have me join them on UK campaigns, please get in touch. I'm a customer first, but a fan also.
