Veranda Paul et Virginie Mauritius | Hotel Review
After travelling 12 hours by plane to get to Mauritius, we had the most seamless airport security experience, no queues, friendly staff and our baggage was waiting for us on belt 2. A short walk through the green customs channel and we were out of the airport. Not only were we greeted by a wave of hot tropical air but also a name board from the hotel ‘Veranda Paul et Virginie’ with our names on it and a local driver with a big smile on his face, “welcome to Mauritius” he said in his French accent.
We then headed North East, through the idyllic quaint fishing village of Grand Gaube in Mauritius, to the Veranda Paul & Virginie hotel. Tuula and I were told this adults-only hotel is the perfect spot for couples looking for an intimate and quiet cocoon, with unique activities and experiences to discover the region. After some hectic shenanigans with buying and selling real estate back in London, we were in dire need of a change of scenery.
Time seems to have frozen in this charming village. Although, that said I still asked for the WiFi password within 2 minutes of checking in. The hotel is spacious with ample room to admire the idyllic view of the Grand Gaube lagoon, and thus we savoured the peacefulness of this unique spot for all of twenty seconds before getting our phones out to take photos. I'm sorry but it comes with the trade, and every angle, nook and cranny of this place looks like a screensaver.
So couple of thoughts. This is not a place to come and have a stag do. Let me make that abundantly clear. This is a couples retreat designed to encourage total escapism. If you're like me and have a thing for light contemporary decor blending to authentic mauritian architectural features such as stones, wood and thatched roofs, then this is the place for you.
And who doesn't like an infinity pool? Back-dropped by the vivid turquoise blue lagoon.
The staff are attentive and eager to help. Nivesh and Rachida gave us the guided tour on arrival. Raj, Pratima kept us fed and watered throughout. There wasn't a cocktail the beverage team couldn't muster. The evening entertainment provided gave us something to really look forward to in the evenings. And lastly Kalyani from the housekeeping team really pulled out all the stops with towel sculptures and fresh flowers every day on the bed. These personal touches go a long way in my book. Our room was well appointed with an extra seating area plus a balcony.
The hotel and grounds are truly stunning with two swimming pools, two restaurants and two bars. The local village is just outside the hotel on the left and is pretty laid back and locals are friendly. The Spa was a nice treat for Tuula where she indulged happily in a head, back and shoulder massage.
If you love to dive or snorkel the Catamaran Cruise to Bernache island is a fantastic way to explore the sea and have a BBQ on board too, again, great crew that make you welcome and ensure you are safe. Well worth it, also snorkelling off Coin de Mire where the reef is extensive. Our trip was run by Croisières Australes who I would throughly recommend.
I’m sure you’ll want to do your own research into things to do in Mauritius but before I leave you, there was one last trip recommendation that’s a must. Do the street food tour of the capital city Port Louis, run by Taste Buddies Mauritius. Our guide Adrien was knowledgable, friendly and spoke many languages. On this day you might want to skip breakfast as you’ll not go hungry during the street food tour!
Thank you to all the staff for making this a memorable trip, if you have any questions about Veranda Paul et Virginie Mauritius Hotel then be sure to reach out to me on Instagram.
