War Paint for Men | Help fight fine lines & dark circles
Most of you might have heard about the auspicious uprising of War Paint through the founder's appearance on Dragon's Den. Danny Gray managed to drive down the equity share from all the Dragon's from 20% to 12% and proved that if you have the faith and believe in yourself and your product, then the opportunities will come. You can watch that dramatic pitch and learn about the behind the scenes process here. A must watch for any budding entrepreneur. Also I noticed just the other day that War Paint for Men is now stocked in one of my favourite men’s high-street stores, REISS.
Recently I had the opportunity to road test some of the products and wanted to share both mine and Tuula's thoughts on the experience. I wanted to get Tuula’s opinion on these make-up for men products because I’ve never used make-up (except during a few TV appearances) and she has more experience in what products are good.
PRIMER - £20.
The first step in any makeup routine. Primer is a clear gel which can be used on its own or to help prep your skin for makeup application. After only a couple of pumps there was enough liquid to distribute evenly over my face. I couldn't pick up a scent, so fairly sure this is unfragranced. Primer helps to smooth out the appearance of your skin, mattify, and ensure any products applied afterwards last even longer. Did the job more than adequately. 9/10
TINTED MOISTURISER - £22.
With different shades of fair, light, tan, medium and dark, this is a light weight moisturiser that is slightly tinted to your skin tone which helps to hide small blemishes and thins out fine lines whilst giving a healthy glow. It gave my skin an even glow, without being too showy or remarkable. 8/10
CONCEALER - £18.
This is like a balm texture. A cream concealer to help cover dark circles, blemishes, scars, and other imperfections. It is tinted with a higher concentration than the moisturiser. One thing that is noteworthy about all the products from War Paint, are the handy YouTube tutorials that offer some insightful instructions. It can be quite easy to get bamboozled with Men's Make Up if you're unfamiliar with how to apply them. My advice for this, use sparingly. Use the SPONGE or just your fingers to apply. 8/10
BEARD & BROW GEL - £16.
Get a hold of unruly eyebrows and beards and add a slick finish. I have the kind of eyebrows that would make you think of Ernest Borgnine, if you had grown up watching Convoy or Airwolf in the 80s. Still with me kids? This is a clear product with a comb on the end. Squeeze and apply a small amount to your brows and beard to help groom and shape them. It helped keep my rebel brows on a tight leash. 7/10
REMOVER & REUSABLE COTTON PADS - £12.
These should be handed out to every man and woman after they leave primary school and step into the spiralling nightmare that is grammar school and puberty. Stop disposing of your remover pads. The environmentally friendly War Paint Reusable Remover Pads are Reusable, Vegan and Cruelty-Free. 8/10
CONCLUSION: My skin does look great. To be honest, the changes were minor too - so it didn't look like I was wearing any make-up for men.
