The Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel in Edinburgh Review
Whilst in Edinburgh for the newly opened Johnnie Walker Princes Street Scotch whisky experience, I had the opportunity to stay in the Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel. The location is perfect for the Johnnie Walker experience as it's within walking distance. (Literally just around the corner).
As you'll see from the gallery on their website, the entrance and lobby is enveloped in ornate church-like pews. A fireplace from the Gothic Revival, mini square sieved walls and tiered leather luggage in rich greens and browns. The salon and library are more colour infused with cobalt blue wood panelling offset by dare I say, 'cutesy' tassel-hemmed high backed armchairs in mustard and reds.
But let’s get right down to the meat and potatoes. The caramel chocolate bars and the haggis crisps in the rooms were so moorish I felt fiendish powering through them like a pregnant woman. Sadly I didn't get the opportunity to eat there but after speaking to other patrons I got wind that the food was excellent.
If you're looking to come to Edinburgh I can tell you this place has the romance, the class, and the character that will make your stay a delight. It also welcomes dogs, (noted for future trips) and the gym facilities are as you'd expect from a new and modern hotel in the heart of a capital. Including steam rooms and saunas and indoor pool.
Added tip, ask the very friendly staff to explain the benefits of the Tesla luxury Chauffeur service. You'll look like Sean Connery rolling up to that club.
Final Thoughts
Overall a very pleasant stay. Picturesque views, nice garden space and it felt green throughout. It is ideal for both business and pleasure, and the staff really go out of their way to accommodate. Not only is the Johnnie Walker whisky experience nearby, but the historic museums and attractions of Old Town; the shops, restaurants, bars, and gardens of New Town; and Waverley, the train station that connects them.
