Best Dressed Men at the BAFTAs 2020
Good morning one and all. Today I'm going to give you a quick run-down on my top picks from the Red Carpet at this year’s Baftas 2020. Am I the only one to think this year’s award show lacks any teeth?
Sure a lot more civilised, but when you open up the morning papers and find the only thing worthy of note is poor Al Pacino falling over on the stairs. Anyway, maybe we've just been spoiled rotten with amazing Ricky Gervais monologues at the Golden Globes.
So let’s begin.
Joaquin Phoenix
Picked up Best Actor award for his role in Joker. He wore an a Stella McCartney single button shawl lapel tuxedo with jetted pockets. It's a full cut with plenty of drape, natural shoulders with roped sleeves and it has Underneath Joaquin is wearing White tab collar shirt with a satin/silk bow tie.
Typically Joaquin wears this with a modicum of disdain. Yet he is ironically the most regal and classic looking star on the red carpet tonight.
Rafferty Law
Rafferty Law was wearing a Joshua Kane Edward Tonal 2 piece from the Ready to Wear collection. He has also incorporated a 4x8 deep shawl waistcoat underneath over a long point collar and black silk tie.
The wide shawl lapel Jacket fabric boasts different tones and textures of black silk and wool woven with a slight sheen. A very modern take on the tuxedo, perfect for the youth and rising stars of today.
David Furnish
David Furnish is trying something similar to the Natch suit we saw Daniel Craig wear to the premiere of Knives Out. It's a 1x1 Double breasted shawl lapel suit by Dior. With a jetted pocket and rounded hems. His sleeves look an inch or so short but no one is really paying attention to that.
The whole look is underscored by a drape-cape wrap around that ameliorates this from anything else we'll see on the red carpet. Apart from the John Boyega suit of course. (I'm guessing John is wearing Ozwald Boateng, but no confirmation).
Rupert Goold
Congrats to Alexandra Wood for getting some column inches at the BAFTAs. She cloaked Director Rupert Goold in one of her ready to wear, smoking jackets, dinner shirt and handmade bow ties.
The jacket is long in the body with flap pockets and large peak lapels.
Daniel Kaluuya
Exciting stuff. Daniel Kaluuya wore a spectacular eye-grabbing navy Louis Vuitton suit and proved jewellery isn’t just for women on the red carpet.
I love the richness of the fabric especially. Notice the detail in the 3-button cuff on the sleeve, each button a different colour.
Oliver Proudlock
Another great look from Joshua Kane. My pal Oliver Proudlock looking supreme in this navy velvet suit. It looks effortless on Oli but I can assure there is so much attention to detail here. The rings, the batwing bow tie, the gauntlet cuff light silk trims on the sleeve. Knock out brotha!
