Oris Opens it's First Pop up Store in South Molton Street, Mayfair, London | Oris Watches
The independent Swiss Watch company Oris has opened its standalone retail outlet in the British Capital. Big news, (but not breaking, they opened in March) the store which is located in the plush surroundings of South Molton Street in Mayfair will also become the first retail outlet after Maison Oris in Basel to host the Oris 2018 Collection after its launch in Baselworld.
Give me a little backstory.
Oris was founded in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian in the Swiss town of Hölstein, named after a nearby brook.
The brand survived the 80's Quartz crisis and are considered the flag-bearers for mechanical chronographs thanks for spearheading the reverse of the Watch Salute impediment, (a law that prevented Watch companies from advancing their technology. Imagine if that law was applied to bloggers, we'd never have left Myspace).
What about the pop-up?
The pop-up is situated a short 2 minute walk from Bond Street underground station which is on the Jubilee and Central lines. The building is sandwiched between an art gallery and a cafe, both buildings much taller in stature yet it's the Oris watches that speak for themselves. Keep an eye out for the large Oris Bear on the left hand side of the road as you walk down South Molton Street from Bond Street station and you'll be at the Oris store.
Inside you'll find an Oris mini museum, featuring historic pieces from Oris's 114-year-old history that have been carefully curated by Oris Chairman Ulrich W. Herzog.
"London is a world city and one of the most culturally and historically significant places on Earth. It is home to one of the most dynamic watch retail markets and attracts a wealth of domestic and international customers who know and love their watches" Ulrich Herzog.
What sort of prices are we looking at for an Oris Watch?
The prices for the Oris Divers Sixty-Five and the the Big Crown ProPilot (coined Big Crown so Aviators could wind the crown without removing their gloves) are available at the pop-up and through in stockists which can be found on the Oris website.
Oris pre-date all these innocuous Kickstarter watch companies that brand themselves 'luxury'. Oris are true luxury with a history of watch making.
