Leather Musk Candle from Leoben Co: Reviewed

From the stables of Leoben Company comes Leather Musk, a beautifully presented candle poured in California, infused with essential oils. About Leoben Co.

Leoben Co. is a Southern California based candle company owned and operated by Samir and Whitney Tabikha. They proudly design, produce, and ship all of their candles from their studio and factory in Huntington Beach, California. They are passionate about design and specialise in developing unique, relevant, and quality candles for major retailers around the world.

So do candles really smell of leather?

I've had some leather fragrances, leather incense, you name it, and some are hit and miss. I think some words just look good on a bottle. Words like eucalyptus, passion fruit, etc. Who knew we needed these things in our lives? Well we put men on the moon, and we put musk in candles, we're capable of anything as a species. I digress.

Leather scents are often seen as sophisticated and luxurious, making them a popular choice for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

This is a 9 oz jar/container candle, and I don't think it projects as well as the Espresso Martini by Leoben. It has more of a warmth and a cosy less-buttery smell than the Espresso Martini. This is the kind of fragrance I'd prefer to have at my desk than in the bedroom.

I wanted to get that auto-mechanic scent going just for nostalgia purposes. But this candle doesn't offer that, and I'm slightly nonplussed by it in general. The main issue is lack of projection. That said, I do love the presentation and the purple ceramic container it comes in.

It's interesting that the scent is primarily pushed towards men, bearing in mind that 90% of candles are bought by women, in the US at least.

This makes me think the market for masculine candle fragrances are so niche, that the effort simply hasn't been applied in this case. What a market there could be though? Candles that men actively seek out to buy. It took awhile for men's makeup and grooming in general to take off, so are we just dragging our feet when it comes to men buying candles on a regular basis?

Perhaps we need to target the seasonal gifts. Approximately 35% of candle sales occur during the Christmas/Holiday season. What if we introduced some novelty men's candles like "ROCK HARD" or "I DRIVE A PORSCHE" huh?

Just floating some ideas out there. In all honesty I'm not sure where you'd pick this fragrance up if you weren't visiting strip malls in Winter Park. Leoben's website is so streamlined and basic I doubt anyone orders through them online.

I'm telling you there is a market. Back to the drawing board.
