Artiscent Atelier Santal Frais: Fragrance Review

Artiscent Atelier Santal Frais: Fragrance Review

I was given this aftershave from my better half, the Artiscent Atelier Santal Frais, and I couldn't believe it when I looked it up online to find she picked it up for £10. It just goes to show you can put a couple of fancy names on the label, make it look exclusive and high end by investing in a decent looking bottle, and you can convince anyone that this is a high end product.

It's scary to think how much those TOM FORD fragrances cost to make, and the margins involved. I was honestly shocked when I discovered the price, and then scolded my better half for being such a cheapskate.

First off the packaging is simple, the cap opens and closes with a reassuring click and the atomiser is solid and has great pressure.

Opening notes:

First I get a push of bergamot that sends me back to the bespoke Martini Bar at The Connaught. It's entwined with a hint of green apple and the two joust and spiral around like a pair of Bald Eagles during courtship. (Look that up, it's incredible).

Middle:

The middle sits close to the skin, and there is a little heat coming through. Maybe a tiny tingle like those mint SOURCE body wash soaps. It flirts then fizzles. It has no anchor, but that's fine. I wasn't expecting for this fragrance to find its feet. It has a light lean towards some kind of sweet cinnamon and Musk Vanilla. Actually now that I'm sitting with it typing this, much more of a follow through on the Vanilla.

Like marshmallows by the BBQ.

Ending:

It's certainly too light on its feet for any Black tie event, and the Geranium is more or less non-existent, so I can't put this in the aqua sports category. The Artiscent Atelier Santal Frais offers a dalliance teenage emancipation, yet can't make up its mind and finally, fails to meet the strength of its convictions. But WHAT a fragrance for beginners. Or a gift for your nephew!

Where to Wear:

Sadly, like most fragrances that do not meet the criteria of; Black Tie, Date Night, Mates Poker Night, it gets consigned to wearing at home, in bed or a short walk around the fields with the pets. For the price point however, it's every bit the bargain, and looks great on the shelf.
