Jean Rish Midnight Pour Homme Eau De Toilette for Men
I fancied adding an aquatic fragrance to my scent wardrobe that wasn't going to break the bank, and chanced across the Jean Rish Midnight Pour Homme Eau De Toilette for Men upon my travels. I thought why not. It comes encased in a sleek, modern bottle, strong shoulders and ribbed sides.
The atomiser is not pressured but works well enough and is complimented by a strong magnetic cap for assurance. Let's get to the notes.
● Top Notes: Sea Notes, Bergamot, Green Mandarin
● Middle Notes: Rosemary, Lavender, Cypress
● Base Notes: Patchouli, Amber, Musk
Opening
Like all things Americana (yes they proudly state that on the bottle) it comes out strong, high-fiving everyone and looking to radiate a positive energy. That's present in the Green Mandarin. It's actually one of the better Green Mandarin notes I've sampled in a while, like an extremely good alternative to Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Giò Profondo EDP. It's refreshing like a cold shower, only your balls don't retreat to your stomach.
Middle
The drydown happens with an opulent fusion of rosemary and Cypress. The lavender gets a little lost but that's fine. I wish the opening notes hung around a little more because it does feel a little top heavy. It seems strong when it first goes on, but fades fairly quickly, almost too fast. Again, like most things American. I eagerly await the performance and hope that it delivers more than a whoop whoop and a 'make some noise' -esque charade.
Ending
The cologne lasts about 6 hours on skin and projects decently. It has a nice musk and follows through with some amber notes. There is a maturity and a new-money kinda feel to this scent. You could almost imagine yourself mingling in a party where you haven't the foggiest who anyone is, nor what they're talking about. But this scent grounds you nicely, and you can carry yourself confidently. Even if you have just crashed someone's wedding/funeral. It won’t stink up a room but it will definitely be noticed.
Wear and Where?
The gym naturally, perhaps it's too early to be wearing for those belated winter get-togethers. This has a spring feel. A new dawn and a wistful sky-gazing appreciation for everything positive, knowing fine well, it's all going to hell.
First date, gym wear, around the house.
