Bring the Barbecue Indoors: The Teppanyaki Grill

Cooking for your partner is one of those chores that every person should enjoy. Especially if they've had a long and arduous day at work, and are hungry, but have no energy to cook a meal for themselves. Tuula and I, we like to share the cooking and take it in turns. We are both on a par with our culinary skills, but recently I purchased a Teppanyaki Grill that would be a game changer for both of us. 

It's so easy to set up, and so easy to make good wholesome meals no matter what level you are when it comes to cooking, the Teppanyaki Grill is so easy to use. It even comes with the wooden fish slices so you can flip your burgers, your scallops, your red peppers, all of it without any fuss. 

It's also a great way to cook wholesome vegetables that everyone can enjoy, with that wonderful barbecued taste. We all miss the barbecue when it's freezing outside. But this grill brings back that summer feeling right into your kitchen. What's it's easier to clean that your barbecue. Just wait for the plate surface to cool a little, and wipe it down with a damp sponge and some disinfectant and you can stow it away.  

Buying this plate also led to go and meet my local butcher, and my local fishmonger as I bought some fresh chipolatas, burgers and salmon fillets from them. Then I hit the farmers market and bought wild mushrooms, Padron peppers and it felt good, to shop somewhere and be part of the community here. 

TOP TIP: Always keep the skins on when cooking the plantains.

The idea to get the grill, came to me when a friend of mine was talking about his eating experiences in Tokyo. The idea that all these Teppanyaki Grill bars serve the food right there on the grill in front of, wow fantastic I said. I would love to go there some day. 

Not only is it quick, and something you can do on your own, but it's also makes for a great romantic night in. Tuula and I put on some music, I got a bottle of wine (for myself) and I grilled the food whilst she cut and marinated the vegetables. 

When we invite some friends round later in the month, I will definitely get the grill out again and have that shared barbecue experience which will make for a great conversation stimulator. It even comes with some recipes to get you started. But if you know your way around a barbecue, really there is so little to it.
