Bake by Akro | Fragrance Review

Bake by Akro is an Amber/Vanilla unisex fragrance launched in 2023. The nose behind this fragrance is Olivier Cresp. Top notes are Rum and Lemon Zest; middle notes are Praline and Whipped Cream; base notes are Bourbon Vanilla and Brown sugar.

I know what you're thinking. I don't know whether to wear or make a cake out of it. I would advise however you wear it. As delicious as it sounds (and smells) it could really give your guts a work out if ingested. Be warned.

Akro have managed to harness the temptations of everyday life, the smell of bakeries, cake shops, the scent of fresh pastry, and put all the wonderment and mischief into a fragrance that will have you smelling like a man-sized lollipop, good enough to lick.

So what's the inspiration behind the scent? Well I did some quiet digging and on the 4th page of Google is a piece on ELLE UK: 'Cresp's own fragrance brand, Akro, is set to launch Bake EDP this spring, in collaboration with Carnaby Street bakery Crumbs & Doilies and inspired by Cresp’s favourite lemon cupcakes there.'

The bottle has a beautiful slightly squashed cylindrical shape with a long Lincoln hat-esque Black Cap. The opening notes are as you expect. Zesty, alluring, and damn right sweet as heck. The Rum gives the fragrance some maturity, but it’s still screaming unashamed decadence.

On the dry down I got some vanilla and just a dusting of hundreds and thousands. The beauty of this fragrance is its uniqueness. There will be nothing on your shelf that smells like Akro Bake. Unless your shelf is quite literally filled with Krispy Kremes, which would be quite alarming if it is.

It's a young fragrance, but does have some 'whatssszat?' factor so I will enjoy wearing this out when I just fancy a change or want to make people crave sugar.

Personally I think I prefer the Akro Smoke or the Malt as they are more aligned with my tastes and are generally a safer bet. But you won't have as nearly as much fun wearing it as you will Akro Bake.
