6 of the Best Pubs to Watch the Football in London
Today I'm going to share some thoughts and research on the best places in London to watch the football. We have some very big events coming up this month; The FA CUP, The Champions League and a little thing called the World Cup in November this year. I've tried to scatter out the locations of pubs in different boroughs.
The Avalon - Clapham South/Balham
My local. A 3 minute walk from Clapham South tube station towards Balham and you’ll find the Avalon pub. On sporting occasions it gets very busy so worth booking a table in front of the big screen (which they erect on game days). The main screen is a massive indoor projector screen with a few others dotted around the place. Good beer and awesome pizza are a must. A nearby alternative pub is The Perky Nel. This one doesn’t have a large screen but they do have more smaller screens and tends to be less busy and easier to book.
The Packhorse & Talbot - Chiswick
This is a slightly mercurial one. But if you're in West London and fancy a day out, but also want to watch the footie, this is a safe bet. The Packhorse & Talbot don't have massive teles, but they have quite a few flat screens dotted around the pub. They do fair to middling pub food so if you fancy some decent grub, head next door to The Firehouse or over the road to The Roebuck. The Packhorse & Talbot also allow dogs, and there are some great local parks close by to run the dog or appease the girlfriend and have a picnic after. For more info on Chiswick better ask local resident Peter Brooker.
Box Park - Wembley
Admittedly I haven't been, but coincidentally talking to a gentleman who is fitting my gate as to where he watches the football. He said Wembley. I thought obviously the ground, but he was referring to Box Park Wembley. I know the one in Shoreditch is good fun, so I can imagine this will be a decent place and being near the ground, a perfect place to drink in some footie atmosphere also.
Famous Three Kings - Fulham
According to Visit Britain, this is one of the most popular sports pubs in London and for good reason. The spacious pub in West London is fully stocked with 3 projectors and 15 plasma screens showing sport from more than 71,000 TV channels. (To think growing up there was 4, and that was your lot). Enjoy the many craft beers and ales on offer as you root for your team.
Sports Bar and Grill - Clapham Junction
Not too far from my gaff so I can't go without giving these guys a mention. Although every time I watch my beloved Crystal Palace play here they always seem to lose. (Mind you, that can be said of any pub I go to watch Palace play sadly). Enjoy a warm welcome from their professional and attentive staff. They have designed a place to socialise, dine, drink and work with plenty of power points for lap tops and free WiFi. We offer fabulous food and we also serve a wide range of wines, lagers, cask ales, and spirits.
The World’s End - Finsbury Park
The World’s End in Finsbury Park is renowned for playing live sport. Though be sure to book a table or you'll be disappointed. Located 2 mins from Finsbury Park station, underground and all bus routes so very accessible. They have amazing HD projector screens and Big screens and can show more than one game at once.
Pub on the Park - Hackney
So one of my bug bears of watching football in pubs is not having the game on I want to watch. The Pub on the Park have all the major sporting events covered with 7 Big Screens. They can also have numerous games on at the same time so no more clashes! Situated on the very edge of London Fields they have spectacular views across the park, Summer or Winter, and are easily accessible from Hackney Central, London Fields or Haggerston overground and a multitude of buses.
Being just three minute’s walk from the Hackney Empire, Oslo, MOTH and Hackney Picture House makes them the ideal meeting place before a concert, gig or other event.
