THE NEW JOE OTTAWAY COLLECTION: THE PROGENITOR OF ‘NEW CASUAL’
Today I'm going to wax lyrical about the new Joe Ottaway collection.
Joe is a leading stylist and image consultant within the menswear industry today. He has the enviable resume of often featured in GQ's best dressed lists and will often be front row of Men's Fashion Week. In exchange for a bit of exposure for his new capsule collection, Joe has agreed to let me sit next to him on the next runway event and laugh at my jokes. (Only messin'). I was lucky enough to be gifted a piece from the collection. The beige herringbone linen jacket and I’m already interested in buying the cotton ecru single pleated trousers to go with it. However, I'm happy to sing about my friend's collection and relieved and how good it looks. Makes my job a lot easier when I don't have to feign praise and I can actually wear some of the pieces out in the field.
The capsule is elevated casual wear that embodies affordable luxury and caters to a new lifestyle. Made from the same factories as luxury leaders Thom Sweeney and Mr Porter but for a fraction of the retail price.
The collection has 12-15 styles per capsule with 15 units per style to build exclusivity. Whilst this is a very limited collection in terms of unit quantity, there is potential for reorders and the collection does have a lot of key staples for building that 'new casual'.
I felt it was only a matter of time before Joe dipped his toe in the water here and introduced a new collection. Having been such a huge influence on other people's style, (including my own and probably yours either directly or indirectly) it's a very lateral move for Joe to come out with a collection like this. By the way that site is brimming with content from style edits, advice on building a contemporary and even a cornucopia of clothes and products individually curated by Joe that will upgrade your style.
In summary, it’s understated, it’s quality, it’s pure Joe.
