NEW VIKING COLOGNE | FROM SHIP TO BEACH PARTY IN A MATTER OF MINUTES

From the house of Creed comes NEW VIKING COLOGNE. An aromatic Eau de Parfum that refreshes you with an exhilarating energy, renewed determination and an all-conquering spirit. Created by 6th generation Master Perfumer, Olivier Creed, and his son Erwin, it is a masterful alchemy of zingy citrus fruits with an aromatic heart and a woody base. 

A while back I listed my top 3 Creed fragrances outside of Aventus. The VIKING actually made the podium in that article, Tabarome Millesime and Royal Oud taking 2nd and 1st place respectively. You can imagine my excitement when the invite came in to attend a press lunch for Creed where we'd get to experience the new Viking flanker, new VIKING COLOGNE. 

What I liked about the original was the complexity and the minty accord that very much characterised the fragrance for me. The new VIKING COLOGNE comes without the mint notes, instead the citrusy opening is a potent blend of lemon and pink pepper. However, the immediate rush of orange mandarin is the most prominent and instantly, this sets the landscape. It also justifies the orange label, different to the pillar box red of the original.

The middle notes have a dalliance of nutmeg and sage, which offer the familiar earthiness of the original. Although the lavender arrives quicker along with the woodiness of Cedarwood. It was explained to me by a friend at the dinner that the narrative of the original Viking could be the memory served of a group of Vikings coming ashore for the first time after a spell at sea.

The strange and unusual masculine aromas are immediate, and then the earthiness of the woodlands are discovered as the Vikings become climatized to dry land. How I can best describe the new VIKING COLOGNE is all of that, except this time there is an acceleration. The Vikings aren't taking their time to scavenge their new found home, they're diving off the ship to swim ahead and meet the shore. When they arrive they've set up the DJ tent within minutes and the BBQ beach party is in full swing.
