JAGUAR RACING & FORMULA E | THE FUTURE OF ELECTRIC
Today I wanted to share some notes and research I've been compiling on Jaguar Racing & Formula E.
Joining the global race for a zero emission future Jaguar cars will go fully electric by 2025. The brand wants its models to get ahead of looming ban of sales of new fossil fuel vehicles. Parent company Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) which is owed by India Tata motors said:
“Jaguar will lead the way on electrification. The brand faces a similar challenge to many other car makers - making a transition to electric vehicles while maintaining the feeling and power of a luxury combustion engine model.”
Meanwhile JLR units will launch 6 pure electric models over the next five years, with the first one coming in 2024. JLR plans to keep all 3 of its British plants open. It said it will spend 3.5 billion dollars annually on electrification technologies and development of connected vehicle services. Shares in Tata motors rose as much as 3% after the announcement. JLR said it was also investing in developing fuel cells in anticipation of a future shift to hydrogen to power vehicles. (This information report from Reuters February 2021).
From a CNN report Thierry Bolloré the CEO of JLR announced:
At the end of the decade all our range of cars with electric drive train. We will be a Zero carbon company by 2039. When quizzed on whether APPLE will be collaborating with JLR he demurred:
“It makes a lot of sense the tech company is getting interested in the car company. Why? Because the car is the next connected object and its expectations from our customers that we can offer seamless experiences with enhanced connectivity. We are discussing with everyone.”
How has Jaguar performed so far in Formula E?
Formula E is a major part of that in their development in that space. As we enter Season 7 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Jaguar Racing Mitch Evans and Sam Bird have gotten Jaguar into 2nd place in the Drivers’ Championship, just 2 points behind Mercedes with only a hand-full of races left. Jaguar are running their fastest and most efficient I-TYPE to date which encapsulates their learning from four seasons in Formula E.

Worth investing in Jaguar right now?
I've done some quiet digging and a report on June 15th 2021 said Jaguar parent Tata Motors (NYSE:TTM) is up 0.10% in premarket trading. Shares are up more than 90% YTD.
