Gold Knight by Kilian | An Exceptional Going-out Fragrance for Men
Today I’m going to review one of my favourite going out fragrances for men of all time, Gold Knight by Kilian. The Founder of Kilian, Kilian Hennesey mentioned in press interviews that he wanted to make something that evoke the colours of black and gold. Not only has Kilian constructed one of the best ever fragrances but they have made it aesthetically pleasing.
Each Kilian fragrance comes in a designer box, which you can repurpose for other uses. This one I’m using to store my jewellery in. The front of the display box has a gold and black mirror-mosaic aesthetic that actually reminds me strangely of The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. He pioneered the application of gold leaf to paintings. Big in Austria check him out.
The bottle itself is one of pure decadence, what a declarative statement for your shelf. On the front it has a metallic-gold label with the KILIAN logo embossed and on the side it has like a tattooed-passport stamp. A very audacious but undeniably beautiful bottle.
The atomiser has a decent push. Or a salient thrust as I like to say. Always know the good from the cheap when it comes to aftershaves, the atomiser is a good signal indicator that you're getting what you pay for.
Top notes - ANIS, Bergamot. Middle Notes - Honey. Base Notes - Patchouli.
The honey is dark, it's certainly the most notable. And it’s the fulcrum for this scent. The vanilla, the anis, they revolve around the honey. The patchouli give it this exotic belly, but that doesn't come til later.
It's bold, it's definitely black tie but it's not overtly spicy so not limited to black tie. I can't tell you how many compliments I've gotten. The sillage is great, projection is good, it’s an all-dayer, so spray once and it will stay with you all day, no need to top up.
It's indefatigable, as Stephen Fry would say. (See since the lock down I've been reading more books).
