Why Everyman Needs a Versatile Cashmere Coat This Winter

Today I'm going to talk about the true joys of wearing a versatile overcoat. I'm modelling my own Hawkins & Shepherd Navy Cashmere overcoat. This 100%, 8 x 3 (8 buttons 3 working buttonholes) cashmere Overcoat is a design collaboration between menswear designers Hawkins & Shepherd and Savile Row trained woman's designer Calder London.

A typical military jacket will be a 6 x 3 construction. However, this is not a military design, it's an interpretation on a traditional overcoat. The extra row of buttons is not uncommon on overcoats of this nature, and I believe it adds the extra illusion of height.

This coat can be styled open like I'm wearing in these photos. This could pass for a single breasted if you're not paying close attention. It's also a very 'betweener' coat. You can wear it casually over just a Zara tee shirt like I'm doing or with a smart shirt and suit jacket.

It's also important to note that when wearing a Navy Overcoat there should be an element of contrast in your outfit. I've opted for a grey woollen Fisher & Woordes scarf and some brown John White Derbys. My trousers are a flat front but with a slight taper in the leg

My inspiration behind this look is casual-London 60's mod. What would they wear on their days off?  I have kept the look clean, simple, minimalist. It's incredibly versatile. I could go on a first date or meet a client/friend for drinks.

This coat is also available in camel cashmere, a single breasted construction with flap pockets. Both jackets project my signature look. They're warm enough for the transitional months as we step closer to Winter but don't want to be wrapped in skiwear just yet.
