The Menswear Showstoppers for OSCARS 2018
The 90th Anniversary ceremony saw a return to colour on the red carpet as opposed to the all-black funeral procession that turned up to the red carpet at the Golden Globes months earlier.
Leading the pack was Armie Hammer, famous for his portrayal of the Winklevoss twins in the biographical drama film The Social Network. Rocking an all red velvet Armani double covered button single breasted tuxedo. No flamboyant accoutrements, two straight jetted skirt pockets with medium width notch lapels. A narrow leg (perhaps a shade too narrow around the calves if I’m being picky) but a good length. Love the pleated shirt.
We did warn you about Timothee Chalamet back at the Brits Red Carpet article. Here he is reunited with his Interstellar co-star Matthew McConaughey wearing an all-white on the night single button, single breasted tuxedo. Notice the single button under the shawl lapel is met with another button on the opposite side of the fasten to increase the symmetry.
His flat fronted, low rise trousers has a narrow leg with no break which draws your eye to his black patent leather Chelsea boots. Timothee can pull off this look brilliantly because he’s young, unabashed and has contrasting long dark hair.
Adam Rippon: Oh look at me. Haha only kidding. I don’t know what to make of this, actually I do, I hate it! I think I appreciate the bravado and the audacity, more than the outfit itself. The Moschino suit included feature shoulder cutouts and leather detailing holding the sleeves together. Was there anything wrong with shoulders on a jacket? Did I miss a meeting?
Ansel Elgort looked dynamite in this green velvet dinner jacket. Deep shawl lapel with satin facing and matching gauntlet cuffs. No need to go balls out with matching trousers and has wisely opted for flat fronted with a modicum of break. Nice to see a little fabric on the trouser on a youngster, far too many narrow and skinny on the carpet this year for my liking. His missus Violetta Komyshan opting not to rock a bra did not go unnoticed by this particular fashion blogger.
I know everyone is talking about Chadwick Boseman’s all black number, and rightly so. But if you really want to stand out on the red carpet, why not go 6x6 double breasted. Expertly done, executed brilliantly with just the right sleeve length to allow for a little shirt to come through on the cuff. Nicely done Mr Holland.
