MEN'S GROOMING ARRIVES IN CLAPHAM SW4

For those of you who have read my previous male grooming article 'Can a man be too groomed?' will realise that despite my groomed appearance, I'm not really one to go and 'get groomed'.

At 34, I am kind of set in my ways...but it's amazing what a difference one month can make.

Cue the opening of PORTERS Gentlemen's groom room in Clapham. Fortunately for me, I found this little gem on Abbeville Road during a quick work break to grab my daily coffee fix.

As with all of these type of shops, it is all about being made to feel welcome and PORTERS does just that and more. Bora Esen the owner of PORTERS welcomed me into the shop, was offered a complimentary hot or cold beverage and introduced me to his knowledgable staff. These guys are passionate barbers which puts you at complete ease. Bora was immaculately groomed (as you would expect!) but impeccably dapper wearing a tailored window-pane grey double-breasted suit, black casual shirt with matching pocket square.

Bora kindly answered the below questions I had on men's grooming:

Q) Why do you think more men are grooming these days and do you think this is just the start of a booming trend?

I think men always groomed themselves but today we have so many more men doing it because of whats out there on offer. Its also about education, men are creatures of habit and once shown and thought something will adapt and start doing it or using it. We have so many products on the market now then we did 5 years ago. Even department stores and providing huge spaces for mens fashion and grooming. I hope its a boom that will keep booming.

Q) If you could give one grooming tip to my readers, what would it be?

Its got to be a good haircut. 3-4 weeks max. Think about it, you can change your clothes daily or even a few times a day and change your shoes, but a hair cut is something you have to wear every day all day and you must get this right. Choose a style to suit your lifestyle, image, hair type and face.
